Dear Parent:

The Alcona County Amateur Radio Group is an organization of amateur radio enthusiasts. Amateur Radio Operators (Hams), have a long tradition of worldwide service,  which is complimented by their avocation.

Amateur Radio, like every worthwhile organization in our society, needs members with a commitment to serve. Most of the licensed young Hams in this county still do not have radio equipment of their own despite the fact that considerable time has passed since receiving their licenses. In an effort to maintain a continuity of such service, we have developed plans to establish and administer one or more fund-raising activities to aid those youth of Alcona County who have undertaken the initiative to study and pass Federal Communications Commission standardized testing requirements.

We feel that acquirement of some basic two-meter hand-held equipment may stimulate additional interest among these students and hopefully, inspire them to take their citizenship skills and commitments into the community.

This is not a give away program: The fund-raisers planned so far will be require a level of adherence to meeting the criteria outlined in the attached covenant. This project is no small undertaking and will require even more time and commitment by our Group than has already gone into it. Therefore, some measure of support by each candidate’s parent(s) will also be necessary if this is to work; perhaps by way of selling raffle tickets, ensuring that transportation is available when necessary to take a son/daughter to or from an event or by even supporting and encouraging their son/daughter to participate in one or more fund-raising activities that are, in some manner, specifically setup for this program.

We hope you find this a worthy program. It has been submitted to the school for its review and are awaiting any final comments from the administration.

If you have questions that go beyond this communication or the attached Covenant, please telephone me at 724.5802.

We look forward to your interest and cooperation in our program.

Sincerely,
